I like makeup. I don’t wear it everyday, but I get in moods where I spend some time gingerly putting some on–even when there’s no occasion and I’m just spending my day at home. I think that makeup is an easy way to express creativity, just one of those things that doesn’t need too much planning. I’m not an expert or anything, but I like being able to put something together from a bunch of different things picked out from a box/drawer.
More recently, I’ve been on the search for items that I can wear on a more regular basis. I’ve also been increasingly fascinated in checking out more local brands with each one that I find out about. I won’t be able to try everything right after the other, but slowly but surely, I’ll try at least a few brands. If it’s possible, I want to try as full a face of one brand as possible, but I know that some brands only have a few types of products, so we’ll take what we can get.
The first brand I decided to try out was Pink Sugar. I did a little bit of research about their products, picked some products which I thought would fit me and that I wanted to try, and then placed an order through BeautyMNL.
Side note: I was so amazed by the service of BeautyMNL. I placed the order late at night, so I expected it to be counted for the next day and then shipped the day after that. To my glee and surprise, it arrived in the early afternoon the day after I placed it–that’s about a 12 hour delivery.
Okay, back to the makeup. For Pink Sugar, I managed to get products for a more or less full face–foundation, concealer, something for the eyes, and something fot the lips. The products I got were: the Our Lil’ Secret Foundation in Medium Deep, the Our Lil’ Secret Concealer in Medium, the Honey I’m Good Eyebrow Kit in Sassy Brown, their HD Cheek Color in Florence, and their Sugar Tint in No Filter.
The packaging of the products are super nice and sturdy, which is even more impressive considering their price. Not saying that I expected them to have crappy packaging, but it was way better than I thought it would be. The foundation was smaller than I expected, but I guess it’s okay considering how much you actually use, and again the price.
The foundation was a tad bit too light for my skin, which is sad for me because I think this is the darkest shade in this collection. The concealer I picked was intentionally lighter than my skin color, and although it’s lighter than I thought it would be, I’ve more or less managed to make it work. My biggest gripe with these two face products is the fact that they don’t sit well on my dry skin. I found during my research that these products aren’t good for dry skin, but decided to try it anyway thinking it’ll be okay. I’ve tried them a bunch already, but it’s difficult to make it look and feel okay (really more the foundation than the concealer).
The Eyebrow kit is really nice, except I wasn’t so sure about the color at first. Note to self, try to do in store research and swatching before purchasing any makeup–especially online. The wax is easy to work with, even with the tiny angled brush that comes with the kit, and the powders provide a good selection–so much so that I used these as my eye shadow for a simple nude look. I’ve been using it constantly since I got it, and I think I’ve gotten the hang of using it to create clean eyebrows (I’ve also come to like the color, although in future I should still do some color swatches).
I love the blush. When I first opened it up, I saw specks of glitter that scared me a bit. I tend to prefer more matte items (weird considering my dry skin) so I thought I wouldn’t like this at all. When I used it though I was pleasantly surprised. It’s really pigmented so a little goes a long way, and the glitters that appeared to be in the pan aren’t prominent on the skin. The color I picked was great too, right along my alley. I don’t wear blush a lot, but every time I do, this is the one I’ve been picking up (I only have 2 blushes at the moment but hey).
The sugar tint is nice. The variety of colors work for more morena skin tones, the formula isn’t heavy on the lips, and it’s easy to apply. My main issue is that it smells very strongly of grape juice or some other sweet. The scent goes away after a while, but if you’re not a fan of strong fruity scents, maybe check this out in store first before picking one up. If that doesn’t bother you though, and you find a color that you gravitate towards, by all means go ahead. This product is very comfortable to wear, but don’t forget to bring it with you when you go out in case you need to touch up during the day.
Despite the issues that I faced with the products, I was very happy with the purchase. Now whether or not I can use these on the daily–I think I can for the most part. Daily essentials for me are brows and lips, but with a little moisturizer prior to application, I think I can do a fuller face including the concealer and blush. I think I’ll keep the foundation for more special occasions. I think it would be better to not cake my face up with make up everyday.
I like this brand. You get a good value for your buck with the quality of these items, and it’s always nice to support local brands. You can check them out online on BeautyMNL, Lazada, and Calyxta, as well as their website, and in store at some Landmark Department Stores, SM Stores, and Watsons.
That’s it for me for now. I’m not quite sure when I’ll be able to purchase more makeup (there are so many brands that I want to try, but I don’t have that much extra money), but I’d love to know what brands you think I should check out! Thanks for sticking with me! You’re amazing!
’til next time,
