It’s been a while since I posted about a restaurant I’ve visited, so I thought we should change that. The other night we went to a restaurant that amused me so much too, so that’s pretty much perfect timing. Today, I present to you, dear reader, the DC Heroes Cafe in SM Megamall.
I heard about this place a few weeks ago, I think around the time it opened, and I’ve been curious about it. We’ve been going to Megamall about once a week for a while now, but I kept forgetting to look for this (and then I see posters in the mall and I mentally hit myself in the head for forgetting again 😒), so I made a mental note to do some research beforehand. Apart from finding the location, I looked up the menu and read some reviews. The next evening, as soon as we got to the mall, we beelined it to the DC Heroes Cafe.
I got so giddy and excited as soon as we went in because the place looked so cool. On both sides of the main entry way are life sized (or are they larger-than-life sized?) statues of Batman and Wonder Woman, and at one end of the cafe is a DC merchandise store. Different DC heroes are blown up on the walls, and there are several sections, each with a different style of seating. DC merch are displayed all over the place (not sure which are for display and for sale), and there are TVs that, at least when we dined there, played the Teen Titans Go! To the Movies trailer (I assume they play other DC media as well).
Adding to my growing amusement was their attention to details. Their place mats, napkins, and even their plates are custom, and their menu, apart from having each dish relate to one or more heroes, looks like a newspaper and has little blurbs about the heroes themselves throughout it. I just had to mention this. 😆
We ordered two sides and one main dish each. Here was our order: Chicken Fingers a la Negra, Chipirones, The Belly Buster, and Three-Cheese Tortellini. We were going to order dessert too, but good thing we didn’t–the portions surprised us, and by the end of it we were pretty stuffed. 😆
The Chicken Fingers a la Negra are chicken strips with squid ink in the batter. It was pitch black, burnt looking, but when you bite into it, the chicken was well cooked. The honey mustard dip went well with the chicken, and the presentation was A+! 😄
The Chipirones are deep fried baby squid seasoned with amazonian spices. The serving size was so much larger than expected, it was crunchy and chewy, and ranch that came with them went really well with them. We actually ended up taking some home because we were so full and this serving was so big. 😳
The first main we got was the Three-Cheese Tortellini. It was the fanciest looking dish we got this evening, and although the serving looks a bit small, I found that it was filling enough. The pasta is supposed to resemble the Lantern Corps. rings, and each color is a different flavor–red pepper, green pesto, and white cheese (I think). I really liked this dish, the different flavors were a surprise, but they all worked well together. 😊
The second main we got was The Belly Buster burger. The burger itself looks a bit small, but it’s packed with flavor. It’s served with thick cut fries that are really good, and aioli and ketchup that seem to be home made. Again, the burger wasn’t what we expected, but we weren’t disappointed by it at all. 😊
Overall, we liked the DC Heroes Cafe. It’s honestly kind of expensive, but I guess you pay for the ambiance of the place as well, and the food really didn’t disappoint. When we got there, we were hungry and tired from work, and we left super full and feeling a bit like children. This place has an interesting concept and the execution has so much attention to detail, it makes it even cooler. We’ll come back another time to try their coffee and desserts, but this is it for now. 😄
If you want to check out the DC Heroes Cafe, it’s on the fourth floor of the fashion hall in SM Megamall. Let me know if you do, I’d love to hear what you think about it as well. And let me know what other places I should check out! 😄
’til next time,
