A new year, a new chance.

Hey! Happy new year! It’s been one helluva year, 2017. So much has happened all over the world, it’s kind of unreal. That said, 2018 has come upon us, and with this comes a new chance. A chance to be healthier, be more productive, be happier, be better. This is the time when people start making lists of goals and resolutions, fully committed to getting them done in 365 days. Whether they succeed is a whole other story, but at least in the month of January, these resolutions stay strong. 😁

For me, this means a renewed commitment to becoming healthier and lose the weight that I’ve gained in the past few years. It also means emptying out my temper jar and putting a fresh effort to being a happy and positive person. For this blog it means another rehash–well, kind of. I’m pretty happy with what I’ve put out in 2017, and in 2018 I want to push through with improving it. I’m figuring out how to be more regular in terms of posting, as well as writing more relevant content. I’m going to expand my social media as well (maybe even go to Youtube 😲), and just focus on reaching out and growing even more. 😊

If you’ve been with me from any point in the last year, I am insanely grateful for you. Although it was better than years further prior, it was still pretty disorganized. But the posts are out there, and I am thankful that you took the time to read (and hopefully enjoy). If you just stumbled upon this post and are new here, I am grateful for you as well (also omg how did you find me? 😅). Feel free to read through and let me know what you think and how you think things can be improved. Thank you for stopping to read. 😊

These said, again Happy New Year! I hope you had an amazing holiday with those that are near and dear to you, and that your bellies were utterly filled with delicious food and drinks in celebration of both the previous and upcoming years. I’ll talk to you in my next post. Until then, stay amazing! 😄

’til next time,

Taking a break. . .

Hi! I know I missed a week of posting, but I’ve been feeling really crazy lately. My head is really cluttered and confusing, and I think I need some time to reorganize and get my stuff together. That said, I decided that I will be taking a break from posting for the rest of the year, and alongside getting myself together, I will be looking at this blog and re-planning it in time for the new year. I need to close out two series I have going (my Cali and La Union trips), but apart from those posts, I will more or less be silent for the next two months.

In the meantime, feel free to check out my past posts, hit me up at renmblogs@gmail.com, and let me know what you think I should do on this blog in 2018. Thank you so much for sticking with me, it’s been an amazing year of growth and I am very much grateful to each and every one of you.

Although this blog will be still, the venturing continues.

’til next time,

Just a little update.

Hey! I know my last post was two days late, and I was going to apologize there, but I decided to just make a separate post about it. I’m really super sorry about the late post, and also for not yet posting the other Cali Gallery and La Union posts.

I’ve been kind of out of it lately, but I’m trying to get out of the funk. I’ve been struck by an intense wave of insecurity and worry about what I’m doing with my life, and whether or not I will amount to anything in the end.

Coincidentally, the song I posted about last week is a track that I kind of resonate with these days–at least in the sense that I need help. I’m hitting a slump of feeling alone and not feeling like I matter at all. It doesn’t quite make sense to me, but it’s also my reality at the moment.

I’m really hopeful that I’ll get over the slump soon, and I’d like to very sincerely thank you for sticking with me. I’ll be back with consistent posts soon, but I hope you understand that they’ll be sporadic for a while. Thanks again so much! You’re amazing. 😊

’til next time,

I got nominated for an Award?!

So. I got nominated for an award called the Liebster Award. 😲 What this is is a chain internet reward that is passed on from one blogger to another. It is primarily awarded to newer blogs, or blogs that have a small following of around 200 or less. It is a way of recognizing new bloggers and helping them stand out in the blogging community. 😄

Liebster is a word of German origin, with several translations that include dearest, sweetest, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, endearing, and welcome. It’s a great way to describe what the award stands for. 😄

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I was nominated by the lovely Louise of ItsLouLou and I’m very very grateful. Go check out her blog! 😄 She gave me a list of questions to answer, and following these are a few facts about myself. Here we go. . .

  • What is your favourite type of snack?
    • It depends. If you’re talking about something savory, I’d say chips. If something sweet, I’d say Ice Cream (specifically mint chip or coffee crumble). 😂
  • Have you ever seen a ghost?
    • Nope. And I really wouldn’t want to. 😳
  • What is your favourite colour lipstick to wear?
    • I tend to go for mauvey nudes or really dark vampy lips. 😘
  • If it was your last day on earth, what would you do?
    • I would try to fit in a visit to everyone that mean the world to me. 😁
  • What is your earliest memory of when you were younger?
    • Weirdly enough, one of the earliest memories I have is playing this game called Spelling Blizzard on our home computer. 😂 I don’t even remember what age I was then, but my mother always encouraged learning so that kind of explains it. 😂
  • Describe your proudest moment…
    • As of right now? It’s probably graduating from college. It was a really rough ride full of ups and downs, and so many times that I just wanted to give up. I made it though, through all of that, and I’m proud of myself. 😁
  • If you were a cocktail, what cocktail would you be?
    • In the Philippines, we have this cocktail called weng weng, and it’s a mishmash of a lot of different alcohols. I think I would liken myself to this, because there are many sides to myself, and I might not look like much, but put together, I am nice, strong, and unexpected. 😂
  • What is your favourite season, and why?
    • Definitely Autumn. 🍂 I’ve only experienced one autumn in my life as of yet (I live in a tropical country), but I am incredibly fascinated by the browning leaves and the chilly weather (that’s not too cold just yet). 😍

Some facts about me:

  • I love to cook and sharing what I cook with others. 😁
  • My dream is to one day open up my own cafe somewhere. 😊
  • I have a huge collection of plush toys that all mean a lot to me. 😊
  • I spend waaaay too much time on Youtube (and watching anime). 😂
  • I have way more lipsticks than I need (but they’re so preeeeetty). 😂
  • I’ve studied in one area all my life–from preschool to university. 😲
  • Japan is one of my favorite countries, and I plan to have trips there a lot in the future. 😍
  • Since learning about it in Asian history class in high school, I’ve wanted to visit the Maldives. I still do. One day, I will. 😁
  • I’m always on the look out for really good burgers 😆
  • I crave for sweet things after every meal. 😢 😂

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

And my nominees are. . . 🏆 😁

I have 10 questions for you to answer 😊

  1. Do you have a tattoo/tattoos? What is/are the story/ies behind it/them?
    • If not, would you get any tattoos? Why or why not? What would you get?
  2. What’s your favorite dish/cuisine?
  3. Where would you go for holiday if you had 1 week and unlimited resources?
  4. What’s your guilty pleasure?
  5. If you had one super power, what would it be and why?
  6. Which social media site/application can you not live without?
  7. What’s your ideal Friday/Saturday night?
  8. If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, past or present, who would it be and why?
  9. Why did you start your blog?
  10. What keeps you going?

The instructions for accepting this award and passing it on are as follows:

  • Create a new blog post on your blog thanking the person that nominated you, link to their blog, and put in a graphic of the award. (You can use the same one in this post 😊)
  • Answer the questions that were provided, and then share some facts about yourself.
  • Create a new set of your own questions for others to answer.
  • Nominate ten others and share your blog post with them so they can accept their award! 😁

Thank you everyone for sharing your blogs with me and the rest of the world! 🌎 And thank you for sticking with me. 😊

’til next time,

The ultimate throwback.

I always find myself talking to my friends about those things that we used to watch when we were younger, and how we would love to watch them again. In the past few years, I had bouts of freak out moments due to this throwback thing, which seemed really far fetched at the time, that seemed to be becoming real. 😆

First it was the announcement of the NickSplat block on TeenNick about a year ago (although finding out it wasn’t going to be available in the Philippines kind of crushed me), then a few months ago, it was the announcement of Raven’s Home. Then about a week or two ago, they released the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, and I got so excited (but also disappointed I don’t have a PS4 and therefore no means to play it) and was psyched even just watching playthroughs on Youtube. 😆

I thought that this was it, and honestly, it was plenty. Then the 90s sent another wave of nostalgic feels my way last week with the release of clips from two of my absolute favorite shows from back in the day–Hey Arnold! and Rocko’s Modern Life. GAAAAAAH. 😆

Over the weekend, NickSplat, Nickelodeon’s block that’s dedicated to its 90s programs, released two videos. One of these is the first clip from an upcoming Hey Arnold! Movie. If you haven’t watched it, click here. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but it pretty much just gives a summary of the amazingness that is Arnold thus far. 😄hey-arnold-jungle-movie-slice-600x200

The other video that NickSplat released over the weekend is a first look at a new Rocko’s Modern Life TV Special. The air date hasn’t been announced yet, but watching this video will probably get you hyped for it like I was. Whereas Arnold gave more of a throwback moment, Rocko, perhaps just perfectly considering his show’s title, goes into our time now, the 21st century. Check it out here. 😄

So yeah. Breeeaaathe. I’m so so excited for these two specials. Watch the videos yourself and maybe you’ll get why I’m so psyched. For now though, my fangirl moment is over. I know I owe a few more posts, and I promise they’re coming. Thank you for sticking with me. 😄

’til next time,

What I needed to do.

Let me preface this by saying that a large part of this was written when I was struggling with this decision a few months ago. I didn’t know whether publishing it would help me, but it turns out that just letting my feelings out helped me a lot. I’m putting this up now, edited and added onto, because my story wouldn’t be complete if this important part was left out. At the same time, perhaps someone will read this, relate to it, and find that difficult decisions like these need to be made, and there is nothing wrong with following your heart. Here we go.

For a while, I was feeling lost and dejected, and the monologue in my head began to say, over and over, that I wasn’t doing anything with my life. I had bouts of random break downs, as well as times that I found myself spaced out and staring at the ceiling. I felt lost, and alone, and wanted so desperately for things to turn around. Or something.

I decided to do something kind of drastic, something to shake up where my life was going. As the plan unfolded, I found that that decision hurt someone important to me more than I thought it would. Just to clarify, the decision wasn’t something permanent. I really just wanted, and needed, to take control of something in my life, just me with no one really intervening.

Nonetheless, this person was hurt. And I felt bad, and still do feel bad that this person was hurt. There’s something deep inside me pulled me down because I knew that this was the case. The thing was though, I really felt that this was something that I needed to do. I had this sinking feeling that if I didn’t push through with this plan, I would stay stuck in the rut I was in and wouldn’t be able to move forward.

I decided to go back to Manila to get a little more experience and to find myself. Cliche as that line is, I think that right now this is where I need to be to get a better grasp of what I can do and where I can go. This is just something I needed to do to grow and grow up. So yeah. Things will be okay.

’til next time,

You are more than your resume.

I’m not sure about you, but I grew up being worried about how my decisions and actions in school would affect my future. I was always wary of what I could put in my resume and how things I participated in would help me. That said though, I think I have to disclose that I didn’t do everything just because it would be “beneficial” to me, nor did I skip out on things just because it technically wouldn’t.

Anyway, I think this was because of the illusion of the pedestal that excellence is put on, and in connection to that the more concrete things that tend to constitute excellence, especially in the educational setting–awards, classes, degrees, certificates, and the like. In this sense, your resume is your greatest trophy, a one page declaration of your concrete achievements.

This, unfortunately just made entering into the real world a bit more pressure-filled for me. As I was applying for jobs, I made sure that my resume was the best I could make it. I was more or less confident about the experiences that I wrote about. I was a fresh graduate and given that, I assumed that my resume would at least suffice for consideration. When I barely got any responses, I was crushed, and I started to think more and more that I didn’t amount to much.

I started to spiral into a loop of self-questioning and self-belittling. I was sinking pretty deep into a depressive state and I was just unsure of myself, my capabilities, and my worth. Then one day, I decided that enough was enough. I was talking to a few friends who helped me through this tough situation. I forced the negative thoughts away, and just reflected.

I realized that my worth is not defined by those things that I put on that piece of paper. There is so much more in this world to learn and experience, a lot of which will probably never end up on a resume. That doesn’t make those experiences irrelevant though, some of them might even be more substantial than a previous job or certification.

I realized that, yes, I needed to start to stand on my own two feet. Yes I needed to get a job, which I would only be considered for if employers are impressed by my resume. This is not meant to set aside the importance of this document. It’s really more about what we are beyond this piece of paper and the words written there. We dictate what’s written, but the reverse is not true.

This was the realization that I needed to get out of my funk. My mistake was focusing too much on the approval of complete strangers and thereby letting their feedback, or lack thereof, stick to me like super glue. I should have focused on putting my best foot forward looking for a job, whilst still remembering that that’s not all that I’m about. Since then, this has been my constant reminder to myself: Those things are not anything against you. It does not diminish your worth at all. Just keep going. You’ll find something soon.

I decided to put this here as a reminder to myself, as well as whoever is reading this. If you ever feel like you’re in the position I was in, perhaps this could serve as a little nudge. You are worth so much more than you think you are, and you’re strong enough to push forward. So yeah. That’s it from me right now. 😄

’til next time,
