Music monday (on a tuesday): Soap.

The Voice is probably one of my favorite talent shows, and I like to sometimes rewatch the performances from past seasons. Recently, I fell down a rabbit hole of The Voice videos, googled where some of my favorites are now, and I stumbled upon Melanie Martinez and this song. It’s kind of a weird track, but I think that’s why I like it. It’s very chill and I don’t have a problem with hearing it over and over. It’s a really nice track, check it out! 🎢

Music monday (on a wednesday): Help me out.

I haven’t heard of a new song from Maroon 5 for a while now (although I may just have been out of the music loop for years), so when I saw this track a few weeks ago on Spotify, I decided to give it a play–and I really liked what I heard. It fits well with music nowadays, it’s catchy, and it has pretty honest lyrics. It’s a good track to add to a work out or commute playlist because it’s such an easy song to bob your head to, a really awesome find! Check it out! 🎢

Music monday: Helium.

I first heard of this song when my best friend played over Spotify during a drive. I asked what the title was and who sang it, and made a mental note to check it out later on. I found the lyric video on Youtube, and I’m just fell in love with the track even more. It’s such a creative and beautiful way to express support to those people that are important to you. It speaks the words that I myself don’t exactly know how to say. Whether you need a pick me up, want to send a pick me up to someone else, or just want to listen to a new heartwarming track, this is an amazing choice. Check it out! 🎢

Music monday: START:DASH!!

So I spent the last week re-watching one of the most happy-go-lucky anime titles I’ve ever watched–Love Live!Β πŸ˜† It’s a very entertaining show, and since it deals with being school idols (pop groups from certain high schools), there are a lot of super catchy songs. This one is the first one performed in the show, and is the one that’s been pretty much stuck in my head since I heard it again. If you read the lyrics you’ll find that its very uplifting, and with its melody, you have a tune that you can’t help but dance to, or at least bob your head. Check it out! 🎢

P.S. – I couldn’t find the music video of START:DASH!!, but I did find this live performance of the voice actors of the characters. I was so amazed when I found this that I binge watched several more live performances by them.Β πŸ˜†

New books from #MIBF2017.

September 13 – 17 was this year’s Manila International Book Fair at the SMX Convention Center. It’s the biggest book event in the country, and I’ve never been able to check it out because of how far it is to where I live. This year though, I managed to finally go with two of my friends, and we got overwhelmed by everything together. 😡

There were so many people in line and inside the venue, which I didn’t quite expect because it was the second to the last day when we went. At the same time, because it was its penultimate day, I was worried that we weren’t going to be able to get out hands on good books. Thankfully, there were still loads of stocks available. 😁

After looking through a lot of titles, a lot of which ended up in the cart, the final selection ended up to be these five books. As much as I wanted to take home ALL the books, I thought it would be a better idea to be reasonable and picky so as to ensure that they’d all be read. I don’t have much time to read these days, and I still have a bunch of books on my Kindle that I’ve yet to read, I didn’t want to add too many titles.Β πŸ˜•

The five books I picked are the following: The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson, and Dirty Pretty Things by Michael Faudet. 😊

The first three books listed are ones that I’ve been wanting to read for quite a while now, and I’ll Give You the Sun was a book that fascinated me when I read about it a few months back. The last one listed is a poetry book that I barely read about prior to picking it up, and after reading some reviews, I’m a bit worried about the purchase. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt though.Β πŸ˜…

These are (mostly) welcome additions to my small-as-of-the-moment library, and I look forward to exploring the contents of the books I’ve recently acquired. It was a very memorable and fun, albeit tiring day, and I hope that I get to go this convention again in the coming years. 😁

’til next time,

Music monday: Saturday night’s alright (for fighting).

We’re throwing back again today, although not entirely? This song is a really catchy and upbeat track released by Elton John in the 1970s. The reason this post isn’t completely a throwback is that this has come to surface through Kingsman: The Golden Circle. In my last postΒ I talked about how I watched this film over the weekend, and this track has been playing over and over in my head since. Not complaining though, it’s an awesome song. Check it out!Β πŸ˜†πŸŽΆ

Kingsman 2. . . much?

Back in 2015, I was asked by a friend to watch this movie called Kingsman: The Secret Service. I had not seen any trailers for it and I don’t think I saw many posters for it either (or I didn’t pay much attention). I didn’t peg this movie to be something that I was going to like, I’m not a big fan of spy flicks, but I watched it with my friend anyway because why not? It ended up blowing my mind and easily becoming one of my favorite movies. 😁

When I found out that a sequel was coming out, I was in disbelief, but when I saw the first few trailers, I was on the fence about whether or not I was fascinated by the premise. At some point, I stopped watching the trailers because I didn’t want to be spoiled about anything at all. I was going to watch it regardless of what I saw in the previews, so I wanted to preserve all surprises.Β πŸ˜†

This week the wait was finally over. On Wednesday, Kingsman: The Golden Circle was released, and I watched it on its first weekend. My jaws dropped way too many times when I watched this movie, and there were a lot of moments when I yelled profanities in my head, in utter shock of the scenes. 😡

The plot line seemed to me to be a bit of a parallel to the first movie, albeit is a lot more theatrical. Remember the church scene from Kingsman: The Secret Service? Well, there are a lot of those this time around (I stopped counting after a while haha). I’m not a movie critic or reviewer or anything and am stating only my opinions–I really liked this movie. 😁

Reviews said that this movie was a bit too much, and I agree. There are multiple story lines at the same time, a lot of WTF moments and deaths, and many fight sequences, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a bad movie. At least for me, it being over the top made it more entertaining. If you haven’t watched it yet and are thinking about checking it out, I say go for it! It’s not as good as the film it follows, but it’s not a bad sequel, and definitely isn’t too bad compared to other things that have been released this year.Β πŸ˜†
