Kingsman 2. . . much?

Back in 2015, I was asked by a friend to watch this movie called Kingsman: The Secret Service. I had not seen any trailers for it and I don’t think I saw many posters for it either (or I didn’t pay much attention). I didn’t peg this movie to be something that I was going to like, I’m not a big fan of spy flicks, but I watched it with my friend anyway because why not? It ended up blowing my mind and easily becoming one of my favorite movies.ย ๐Ÿ˜

When I found out that a sequel was coming out, I was in disbelief, but when I saw the first few trailers, I was on the fence about whether or not I was fascinated by the premise. At some point, I stopped watching the trailers because I didn’t want to be spoiled about anything at all. I was going to watch it regardless of what I saw in the previews, so I wanted to preserve all surprises.ย ๐Ÿ˜†

This week the wait was finally over. On Wednesday, Kingsman: The Golden Circle was released, and I watched it on its first weekend. My jaws dropped way too many times when I watched this movie, and there were a lot of moments when I yelled profanities in my head, in utter shock of the scenes. ๐Ÿ˜ต

The plot line seemed to me to be a bit of a parallel to the first movie, albeit is a lot more theatrical. Remember the church scene from Kingsman: The Secret Service? Well, there are a lot of those this time around (I stopped counting after a while haha). I’m not a movie critic or reviewer or anything and am stating only my opinions–I really liked this movie.ย ๐Ÿ˜

Reviews said that this movie was a bit too much, and I agree. There are multiple story lines at the same time, a lot of WTF moments and deaths, and many fight sequences, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a bad movie. At least for me, it being over the top made it more entertaining. If you haven’t watched it yet and are thinking about checking it out, I say go for it! It’s not as good as the film it follows, but it’s not a bad sequel, and definitely isn’t too bad compared to other things that have been released this year.ย ๐Ÿ˜†

โ€™til next time,

Surf and sea: Day 1.

It’s been a while since I went on a road trip (Tagaytay doesn’t really count because it’s only about 2 to 2 and a half hours away), so when I knew that a long weekend was coming up, I decided it would be a good time to go somewhere and take a break. It’s also been quite some time since I’ve gone to the beach, so that’s where I decided to go.ย ๐Ÿ˜

We left at around 8:30 AM in order to arrive in time for check in atย Costa Villa Beach Resortย at 2:00 PM. Holy shiitake, that was an insanely long drive. Granted, I wasn’t driving, but I was already incredibly tired so I could only imagine how much more tried the driver was. It was about 3 and a half hours on the road, going through three different expressways.ย ๐Ÿ˜ต

One thing we forgot to do before leaving Manila was getting cash for the trip. So there was a point that we were getting quite frantic when we reached the La Union area because there were barely any banks. We ended up having to go on another hour driving in search of a bank after checking in just so we had funds. So that was crazy.ย ๐Ÿ˜…

The place we stayed at was simple and of a really good value. What could possibly be my favorite part about Costa Villa is the fact that it isn’t located right in the center of surf town. It’s located a little past it which gives them a separate strip of beach that isn’t as crowded and gives a bit more of a private feel. And if you wanted to check out the bars and food places in surf town, it’s just a few minutes walk away.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

When we got back, we didn’t waste any more time. We changed into our swim clothes and headed down to the beach to check it out–but couldn’t resist jumping into the water and playing in the waves. We were there for about an hour, and then we rinsed off and relaxed a bit before going out for dinner.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

We walked down the beach to get to our dinner destination. It was nice, walking by the waves as the sun started to set. In ten minutes, we arrived at Mad Monkeys, and tried their burgers with beer cheese sauce. I’ve got to say, the patties were perfectly cooked, and the cheese sauce just added to the rich flavor of the sandwich. It goes really well with the beverages we got them with (beer and orange soda), and was a really taste bud satisfying meal. I love love love burgers, and this has my two thumbs up.ย ๐Ÿ˜

After dinner, we started walking back to our room. This time we walked on the road–it was a bit too dark to walk by the sea. I knew we were going to pass by a well known coffee place called El Union on the way back, but I didn’t plan or expect to be dropping in that night. When we passed it by though, I was immediately pulled towards it.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

The place itself emits such a chill vibe, and the people there–from the staff to the patrons, were just as chill. We approached the counter and stared at the menu for a bit. They’re popular for their brews–the owner is the reigning World Barista Champion (So flippin cool)–but they’re also known for a drink called Horchata that’s made with rice milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

We were pretty full from dinner, so we decided not to get any particular food just then, but we decided to try the Dirty Horchata. This drink is their Horchata with a shot of espresso, and is a very interesting and delicious beverage. I, for one, am not a fan of cinnamon, but the espresso balances everything out and was just a delight. ๐Ÿ˜„

This drink pretty much ended our day. We went back to the resort, got some beers, and drank while munching on chips and watching a movie. It was a good day. Our short vacation has officially begun. ๐Ÿ˜

โ€™til next time,

Music monday: Too good at goodbyes.

Around 3 years after releasing his first album, Sam Smith is back with a new song and a new album to come soon. I’m not quite sure how to pin this track, to be honest. I think it’s a sad song, and it is, but at the same time it depicts strength? Although it seems to be a strength forged by pain–so I guess this adds to the sadness? Regardless, his voice is so unique and beautiful, and adds so much more emotion to his track. Check it out!ย ๐ŸŽถ

I got nominated for an Award?!

So. I got nominated for an award called the Liebster Award.ย ๐Ÿ˜ฒย What this is is a chain internet reward that is passed on from one blogger to another. It is primarily awarded to newer blogs, or blogs that have a small following of around 200 or less. It is a way of recognizing new bloggers and helping them stand out in the blogging community. ๐Ÿ˜„

Liebster is a wordย of German origin, with several translations that include dearest,ย sweetest, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, endearing, and welcome. Itโ€™s a great way to describe what the award stands for.ย ๐Ÿ˜„

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I was nominated by the lovely Louise of ItsLouLouย and I’m very very grateful. Go check out her blog!ย ๐Ÿ˜„ย She gave me a list of questions to answer, and following these are a few facts about myself. Here we go. . .

  • What is your favourite type of snack?
    • It depends. If you’re talking about something savory, I’d say chips. If something sweet, I’d say Ice Cream (specifically mint chip or coffee crumble).ย ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • Have you ever seen a ghost?
    • Nope. And I really wouldn’t want to.ย ๐Ÿ˜ณ
  • What is your favourite colour lipstick to wear?
    • I tend to go for mauvey nudes or really dark vampy lips. ๐Ÿ˜˜
  • If it was your last day on earth, what would you do?
    • I would try to fit in a visit to everyone that mean the world to me. ๐Ÿ˜
  • What is your earliest memory of when you were younger?
    • Weirdly enough, one of the earliest memories I have is playing this game called Spelling Blizzard on our home computer.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚ย I don’t even remember what age I was then, but my mother always encouraged learning so that kind of explains it.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • Describe your proudest momentโ€ฆ
    • As of right now? It’s probably graduating from college. It was a really rough ride full of ups and downs, and so many times that I just wanted to give up. I made it though, through all of that, and I’m proud of myself.ย ๐Ÿ˜
  • If you were a cocktail, what cocktail would you be?
    • In the Philippines, we have this cocktail calledย weng weng, and it’s a mishmash of a lot of different alcohols. I think I would liken myself to this, because there are many sides to myself, and I might not look like much, but put together, I am nice, strong, and unexpected.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • What is your favourite season, and why?
    • Definitely Autumn. ๐Ÿ‚ย I’ve only experienced one autumn in my life as of yet (I live in a tropical country), but I am incredibly fascinated by the browning leaves and the chilly weather (that’s not too cold just yet). ๐Ÿ˜

Some facts about me:

  • I love to cook and sharing what I cook with others.ย ๐Ÿ˜
  • My dream is to one day open up my own cafe somewhere.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š
  • I have a huge collection of plush toys that all mean a lot to me.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š
  • I spend waaaay too much time on Youtube (and watching anime). ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • I have way more lipsticks than I need (but they’re so preeeeetty). ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • I’ve studied in one area all my life–from preschool to university.ย ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
  • Japan is one of my favorite countries, and I plan to have trips there a lot in the future.ย ๐Ÿ˜
  • Since learning about it in Asian history class in high school, I’ve wanted to visit the Maldives. I still do. One day, I will. ๐Ÿ˜
  • I’m always on the look out for really good burgersย ๐Ÿ˜†
  • I crave for sweet things after every meal.ย ๐Ÿ˜ขย ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€™til next time,

Cali galleries: SeaWorld.

The reunion is finished, and my relatives have gone back to their home states, but like I said–my adventure isn’t over just yet. If you wanna catch up on the other posts in this series, go ahead and click here. In late March, my family and I spent about a week in California reuniting with friends and family, and taking a break from Illinois life–these are my travel diaries.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

This day started in a bittersweet manner. The flight of the last of my uncles that visited was this morning, so I, along with some of my relatives who live in CA, brought him to the airport first thing. After we said goodbye, and my uncle went inside the airport, we drove off to the adventure of the day–SeaWorld.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

Earlier that week, my aunt let me know that they were going and asked if I wanted to come along. After some time, I thought that it was a place I haven’t been to and it would at least be a fascinating experience. That was a good choice, it turns out. I saw so many amusing things–so many cute animals and cool presentations.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

We got on the SeaWorld SkyTower, where we got the chance to see the whole of SeaWorld and beyond it. It was pretty scary considering how high we were going, but it was also a very magnificent view of everything.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

There were also two rides–both of which looked very fascinating and at the same time very scary. My cousin and myself got to ride one, The Manta, and it is possibly one of the scariest experiences of my life thus far.ย ๐Ÿ˜ณ

And of course, I couldn’t resist taking photos of at least some of the greenery.ย ๐Ÿ˜†

I know there’s some controversy with how these creatures are treated but, at least from what I observed, I’m hopeful that that isn’t the case.ย This was a really fun and exhausting day that ended with dinner at my other tita’sย house where I ended up playing card games with my younger cousins.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š

This trip is coming to a close. Just one more day touristing, and then it’s back to Illinois. I thank you so much for keeping up with me and this series. I’m very very grateful.ย ๐Ÿ˜„

โ€™til next time,

Music monday: 1-800-273-8255.

I saw this song on Spotify and wondered what song has a number for a title, and whether or not the number was real. I didn’t get to hear the track fully until this morning, but it struck me, and I’ve listened to it about two more times since. This song tackles a very important issue in the world, something that should not be ignored. It’s lyrics are pretty heavy, but very very real. It’s a track that inspires hope, and spreads the message that regardless of how you feel, there is someone that will be there for you. It’s a really nice track and I’m glad I came across it. Check it out!ย ๐ŸŽถ

Music monday: Grammar nazi.

Many of us have heard this term before–it refers to people who are very critical when it comes to grammar–sticklers when it comes to the English language. This week, we’re going the indie route again with this quirky song that tackles this struggle. I find it to be really amusing, with its witty lyrics and catchy tune. Check it out!ย ๐ŸŽถ
